For Two Voices

238 two-part pieces

For centuries, the Bicinium (i. e. a composition written for two voices) has been a cornerstone of foundational musical training. Through authentic repertoire spanning hundreds of years western music, students will naturally develop intonation, a steady internal pulse, and rhythmic accuracy in a musically satisfying way.

Practiced with a single musician on each of the two parts, bicinia foster the skills necessary for ensemble playing by prioritizing breath and eye contact for cues, as well as building musical autonomy in performance. Furthermore, identifying fundamental modal and tonal structures allows for an informed performance, giving musicians the practical ability to navigate the structure of a piece.

For Two Voices draws upon this ancient tradition to revitalize contemporary music education.
